Movado Calendolux
Day-Date, Automatic
early 1950s

SOLD

Movado introduced some of its most innovative dress-styled collections, during the late 1940’s and early 1950’s.

The Calendolux’ success was due to the clever way it combined several functions. It is regarded as the first wristwatch with a day-date display that is also self-winding. The unusual placement of both calendar apertures is a further indication of Movado’s creativity and technical superiority. By comparison, it would take Rolex several years before introducing their Oyster Perpetual Day-Date in 1956, and Patek Philippe another decade, before unveiling their famed ref. 3445.

The 14k gold case with a 33mm diameter, features a water-resistant back. It feels both substantial and compact, with its bold bezel, lapidated lugs, and recessed crown.

The bumper-type automatic movement, cal. 118, provides the necessary power, in unmistakable 50’s style.
