Restoration & Repair

"... the surgeon for ailing chronometers."
– the Robb Report

At Master of Time, we believe that the proper restoration and maintenance of a mechanical timepiece require more than cleaning, lubrication, and routine adjustment. They demand extensive experience, careful diagnosis, and the judgment to determine what a particular watch truly needs.

Combining traditional watchmaking techniques with modern technology and an extensive inventory of spare parts, we specialize in the care of mechanical timepieces, from contemporary watches to treasured vintage examples. Our approach is tailored to the individual timepiece, with the aim of restoring reliable timekeeping and the proper functioning of every complication while preserving its originality and character wherever possible.

Our services encompass both technical and cosmetic work, ranging from straightforward bracelet repairs and adjustments following the demagnetization of a movement to complete overhauls of watches featuring perpetual calendars, chronographs, moon-phase indications, and other complications.

Dimitrie Vicovanu - watch restorer - repairing watch - Master Of Time - Vicovanu Antiques Restorers - Vintage Watches • Buy • Sell • Restoration • Repair • Appraisal • Since 1986

For many years, Dimitrie Vicovanu has personally carried out every aspect of our repair and restoration work. that comes through our doors.

Today, he brings that same experience and expertise to each timepiece through a more focused, supervisory role, concentrating on the areas where his knowledge and judgment are of greatest value: diagnosing underlying problems, overseeing the work performed, reviewing completed repairs, and making final adjustments and timing corrections when necessary.

The hands-on work is entrusted to a select group of vetted watchmakers with whom we collaborate. Each repair is subject to review as part of our process, with Dimitrie remaining involved to the extent that each individual timepiece requires. Throughout, the guiding principle remains unchanged, that a watch’s age or make should never be an excuse for inaccuracy.
