Introduced in 1954, the Longines Conquest quickly established itself as one of the brand’s most enduring and technically accomplished lines. Contemporary ads celebrated it as a “robust, precise, and elegant watch,” praising its shock-resistant, anti-magnetic, and water-resistant attributes – qualities that positioned the model at the forefront of post-war wristwatch innovation.
The robust 34 mm case with its screwed back speaks clearly to the Conquest’s tool-watch pedigree. Yet this purpose-driven core is offset by several refined dress-watch elements: the elegance of pink gold, the rarely seen vertical micro-bark texture of the original dial, the distinctive syringe hands, and attractively stylized Arabic numerals. The substantial case back is accented by a finely crafted champlevé medallion in deep blue enamel – an unexpected source of further visual delight. The uncommon placement of the date aperture at 12 o’clock adds another a note of originality to an already compelling design. The 24-jewel automatic movement, with date and sweep seconds, mirrors the quality of the watch’s exterior.
Preserved in excellent condition, this mid-century classic remains as desirable and versatile today as at the time of its debut, equally suited to both formal and casual wear.
