Some of the best-known triple calendar and chronograph watches have been made by this 140-year-old Swiss firm. The present model is deeply rooted in the aesthetic of the 1930’s, given its compact 32mm diameter, the ribbed bezel, and faceted lugs. Yet, the arrow-shaped hour indices and the wider Arabic numerals are very 40’s, having become a staple of later decades as well.
This model’s theme of concentric circles is carried throughout, from the grooved bezel to the varying chapter rings of the untouched two-tone dial, to the profile of the original winding crown. The bold Lance hands provide visual anchoring to the complex dial. The triple-date function is easy to read, with the day and month in English.
The Acvatic stands out as the only Calendograph version featuring a waterproof screw-on back. This patented waterproof case was manufactured by Borgel/ Taubert & Fils, who also produced cases for several vintage references by Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin.
Thoughtful design and excellent execution continue with this model’s manually wound cal. 475 movement, known for its clever lay out and outstanding finishing. A watch that is compact and intriguing!
