Le Coultre, 14k Gold
Cal. 480 CW
early 1950’s

A striking dial is what we tend to notice first about a watch, creating that inescapable feeling of love at first sight. The beauty of this remarkable and original dial is given by the clever use of contrasts, in terms of both color and texture. The use of concentric chapter rings, the typeface of the three Arabic numerals, and starkness of the flat bezel and restrained lugs are classic Art Deco and reinterpreted here with a 50’s sensibility. The slim profile of the 33mm gold case is both elegant and comfortable to wear.

The quality of this watch is underlined by LeCoultre’s use of caliber 480 CW, with 17 jewels and manual winding. This same movement caliber was also used for the cleverly engineered mystery watches of the era, which were a unique collaboration between LeCoultre and Vacheron Constantin.
